This announcement came after Lee’s visit to Wong at the Tai Lam Center for Women on Wednesday, immediately upon his return from mainland China, as reported by St Headline.
Wong, a native of mainland China, was apprehended by local authorities on Monday and faced charges the subsequent day for document falsification, deceit to gain entry into Hong Kong, and exceeding her visa stay.
It was decided that Wong would remain detained until her court appearance scheduled for Apr. 16, as her bail request was rejected.
According to a legal expert, violations of Hong Kong’s residency laws typically result in deportation, a possible two-year imprisonment, and a fine up to HKD50,000 (about US$6,392).
Lee stated that Wong’s desire to stay with him and provide care was the reason behind her overstaying her visa. He mentioned that he was unaware of her document forgery and misinformation, noting he would have advised her to turn herself in had he known.
Lee shared that during their short meetingat the Tai Lam Center for Women, they were both visibly emotional, and he reassured his fiancée, telling her not to worry, as he would help her resolve the matter.
The actor further pledged: "I promise to marry Chris after she is released."
He also indicated his willingness to marry in mainland China and settle there if Wong is expelled from Hong Kong and prohibited re-entry.
He recounted Wong’s apologies for the trouble and difficulties she caused him, to which he responded with encouragement, asserting they would tackle and surmount the predicament together.
Lee expressed his belief in Wong’s love and optimism for her betterment post this ordeal.
In light of rumors suggesting Wong might have exploited him emotionally and financially, Lee clarified that Wong has never asked him for money, and mentioned his plans to collaborate with lawyers to ensure Wong receives the lightest possible sentence.
The actor met Wong at the age of 66 and had plans to marry by the end of 2023, which were postponed due to the death of Wong’s father.
Wong has recently been embroiled in allegations, including trading sexual favors for money and engaging in fraudulent activities, alongside doubts over her claims of a wealthy background and education at a prestigious U.S. college, seen by some as attempts to gain financial support from affluent individuals.
Despite these accusations, Lee has remained unwavering in his support for Wong.
Lee, renowned for his roles in "The Condor Heroes," "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer," "Journey to the West," and "Forensic Heroes," has three children from his first marriage in the 1970s, all of whom are older than Wong.
