The couple then kissed each other goodbye before Thao went inside to attend the trial. An then left the premises to let his legal representative Minh, who was present in front of the court, launch the defense on his behalf.
Thuy arrived at the court early in the morning and had a brief conversation with Minh before the trial started.

An, 61, married Thuy, 43, a model and actress dubbed "the Marilyn Monroe of Vietnam," in 2006, after knowing each other for just a week. They divorced in 2008.
An sued Thuy at the HCMC People’s Court in 2010, claiming Thuy had not returned 39 Vietnam-based assets – including several real estate properties, automobiles, and stocks – that he maintains he had bought with "money he earned before marriage."
As a foreigner, he "had to register the properties in Thuy’s name," as was common in Vietnamese law.
The HCMC People's Court recently announced that it would finally hold a trial for the case after 13 years, which it had delayed because it had to "obtain documents related to the properties in dispute."
Thuy said during a previous hearing of the case on Sept. 20 that she wanted the assets in dispute to be equally divided between both her and An, claiming they were bought after their marriage in 2006, which makes the joint-property under her interpretation of Vietnamese law. An has repeatedly denied the entirety of all her claims.
At the Sept. 20 hearing, the judge adjourned the trial until Oct. 16, for "more time to collect and verify evidence."
