Vietnam's former Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh were given official warnings from the Communist Party's Politburo on Friday for violating Party and state regulations.

Phuc, during his time as the prime minister, had violated Party and state regulations with regards to his duty and fighting corruption, resulting in severe consequences and impacting the reputation of the Party and the state, the Politburo said.

In January 2023, the Central Party Committee agreed to let Phuc be dismissed from his positions, including member of the Politburo, member of the Central Party Committee, the state president and head of the defense and security council per his personal request.

Before he became the state president in April 2021, Phuc had served one term as prime minister from 2016 to 2021, when he was lauded by the Central Party Committee as having spent much efforts for the Covid-19 fight. However, he had to take political responsibility as a leader for having let several officials commit violations.

Binh, during his time as the permanent deputy prime minister, had also violated Party and state regulations with regards to his duty and fighting corruption, resulting in severe consequences and impacting the reputation of the Party and the state.

Additionally, Truong Thi Mai was reprimanded by the Politburo. During her time as a permanent member of the Secretariat, she had violated Party and state regulations with regards to her duty and power management, resulting in severe consequences and impacting the reputation of the Party and the state.

Vietnam's Communist Party has four modes of punishment for misconduct by official members: reprimand, warning, demotion and expulsion.
