Visitors to a durian festival in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 will be invited to join durian tours and enjoy the king of fruits for free, local officials announced.

Ngo Thi Minh Trinh, vice chairwoman of the Krong Pac District that will host the festival, said that during the four-day event, visitors will have the opportunity to visit durian orchards in Dak Lak, which boasts the largest durian production area nationwide with over 32,000 hectares.

The organizing committee will welcome visitors at a stadium in Phuoc Hoa Village and then arrange for them to travel by tractors to the durian orchards.

They can also experience the process of planting and harvesting durians while participating in cultural activities of local ethnic minorities, such as gong performances and the singing of "Then," a spiritual ritual that seeks peace and happiness.

Krong Pac currently has about 8,000 hectares of durian, accounting for one-third of the province's total area.

The first edition of the durian festival was held in 2022, attracting 60,000 domestic and foreign visitors.

Durian, nicknamed the king of fruits, is renowned for its unique flavor and aroma and is a popular delicacy in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam.

Malaysia's tourism industry recently unveiled 62 new durian tour packages with prices costing up to US$960, allowing tourists to visit durian orchards and experience other entertainment, such as glamping or jungle trekking.
