Ho Chi Minh City restricts traffic on over 20 central streets for reunification celebrations

Ho Chi Minh City will ban vehicles on over 20 central streets in District 1 between April 22 and 30 for events marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's national reunification.

According to the city's Traffic Police Department, several events will take place downtown starting April 22, including rehearsals and an official ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary.

To ensure safety and order during these events, vehicles and unauthorized individuals will be prohibited from entering restricted zones including Ba Son Bridge (from Thu Duc City to District 1), Nguyen Binh Khiem (from Nguyen Dinh Chieu to Nguyen Huu Canh), Dinh Tien Hoang (from Nguyen Dinh Chieu to Le Duan), Ton Duc Thang (from Le Duan to the U-turn point before No. 37 Ton Duc Thang), and Mac Dinh Chi (from Tran Cao Van to Nguyen Du).

Other restricted streets include Pham Ngoc Thach (from Turtle Lake roundabout to Notre Dame Cathedral), Hai Ba Trung, Pasteur, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Truong Dinh (from Vo Van Tan to Ly Tu Trong), Nguyen Du (from Ton Duc Thang to Cach Mang Thang 8), and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (from Nguyen Binh Khiem to Cach Mang Thang 8).

Other streets within the restriction zones are Le Duan, Nguyen Van Chiem, Le Quy Don, Huyen Tran Cong Chua, Le Van Huu, Han Thuyen, Alexandre De Rhodes, Cong Xa Paris, Dang Tran Con, Thu Khoa Huan, Nguyen Trung Truc, and Dong Khoi.

Vehicle restrictions will follow a specific schedule:

- Tuesday, April 22: From 5:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. the next day

- Friday, April 25: From 5:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. the next day; also serving as a contingency for April 26

- Sunday, April 27, final rehearsal: From 3:00 a.m. to noon; with contingency plans for April 28

- Tuesday, April 30, official anniversary: From 3:00 a.m. to noon

HCMC traffic has outlined alternative routes for commuters:

- From Thu Duc City to Districts 1, 5, 6, 10, Binh Tan, and Binh Chanh:
Vo Nguyen Giap → Mai Chi Tho → Saigon River Tunnel → Vo Van Kiet → various destinations.
Alternate routes via Tran Dinh Xu or Nguyen Van Cu → Tran Hung Dao → Ly Thai To → Ba Thang Hai.

- From Thu Duc City toward Tan Binh District and Tan Son Nhat Airport:
Vo Nguyen Giap → Saigon Bridge → Dien Bien Phu → Dinh Tien Hoang → Vo Thi Sau → Ba Thang Hai; or Dien Bien Phu → Hang Xanh → Bach Dang → Phan Dang Luu → Hoang Van Thu → Phan Dinh Giot.

- From Thu Duc City to Tan Son Nhat Airport:
Vo Nguyen Giap → Vo Van Ngan → To Ngoc Van → Pham Van Dong → Hong Ha → Truong Son (airport).

- From Binh Thanh District toward Districts 10, 11, 12, Cu Chi, Hoc Mon:
Dien Bien Phu → Dinh Tien Hoang → Vo Thi Sau → Nam Ky Khoi Nghia or Dan Chu roundabout → Ba Thang Hai; or Dien Bien Phu → Xo Viet Nghe Tinh → Bach Dang → Phan Dang Luu → Hoang Van Thu → Lang Cha Ca.

- From Districts 12, Cu Chi, Tan Binh toward central districts and Thu Duc:
Le Quang Dao → Truong Chinh → Cong Hoa → Hoang Van Thu → Nguyen Van Troi → Nam Ky Khoi Nghia → Vo Thi Sau → Ba Thang Hai; or Truong Chinh → Cach Mang Thang Tam → Ly Thai To → Nguyen Van Cu → various destinations.

- From Districts 4, 7 toward Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Tan Binh:
Nguyen Van Linh → Tan Thuan Bridge → Nguyen Tat Thanh → Hoang Dieu → Ong Lanh Bridge → Tran Hung Dao → Nguyen Van Cu → Ly Thai To → Ba Thang Hai.
