The packages run by 27 tour operators are on offer across 12 Malaysian states including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Kelantan, and Sabah, said Saidi Bundan, deputy director general of Tourism Malaysia, as quoted by The Star newspaper.
Tourists would have to pay RM70 ($40) per person for durian eating activities in Relau and Kedah, Business Today reported.
For luxury experiences, the tour costs up to RM4,450 ($960) for a three-day-two-night itinerary in Bentong Bilut Hills and Pahang that allow tourists to experience more activities such as durian picking, cooking classes, glamping service and jungle trekking.
"Durian tourism thrives in Malaysia, particularly during the harvest season from late May to August. This trend underscores the fruit's allure and cultural importance, with the new packages offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local traditions," said Akbal Setia, vice president of Tourism Malaysia for Americas.
One of luxury tour packages recommended by the Malaysian tourism industry is Penang Golf Experience that includes four-night stay at the Bukit Jawi Golf Resort, game activities on the golf course followed by tastings of various types of durian fruit.
Tourists can also book a Minimalist Forest Glamping tour that allow them stay two nights in a retreat-style forest chalet, including hot springs and lunch with Nasi Lemak durian.
Malaysia aims to welcome over 27 million foreign tourists this year.
