After a conflict during a beer-drinking session in Ho Chi Minh City's District 7, a man threw acid at several of his party, leaving one dead and seven hospitalized.

According to the initial investigation, Toan is a migrant worker living at a rented apartment in an alley off Huynh Tan Phat Street.

Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Toan and a group of over 10 workers were gathered eating and drinking in the courtyard in front of a row of rented rooms.

Toan was provoked by several at the party, which led to a quarrel. He then became upset and returned to his room.

He told the police that while lying in his room, he could still hear people at the drinking table "speaking ill" of him, which made him angry.

He got up, grabbed a knife and a can of chemicals, mainly containing acid used in construction, and returned to the drinking spot to throw it at several people with the intention of "intimidating" them.

One man collapsed, while the others screamed in agony due to severe burns.

The victims were rushed to hospital, but a 30-year-old man died on the spot.
