Inside the lives of Steve Jobs' children who will inherit none of his $14B fortune

From modeling to venture capital, Steve Jobs’s children have forged their own paths as he and wife Laurene Powell Jobs declined to bequeath their multi-billion-dollar fortune.

Apple co-founder Steve, who passed away in 2011 of pancreatic cancer, had four children: Lisa, Reed, Erin, and Eve. After his death, his widow Laurene inherited the majority of his fortune, primarily through shares in Apple and The Walt Disney Company.

Her current net worth is estimated at US$14.6 billion, according to Forbes, but none of that wealth is expected to be passed on to the children.

Here is everything to know about the four children of the late Apple co-founder.

Although Lisa received millions from her father, The New York Times reported that she did not always benefit from his wealth. The 47-year-old is Steve's first daughter with his high school sweetheart Chrisann Brennan, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship after meeting in 1972, according to People magazine.

In her 2018 memoir "Small Fry," Lisa revealed that her father initially denied paternity, reportedly saying "It’s not my kid" shortly after her birth. In court filings, Steve even claimed he was "sterile and infertile, and as a result, thereof, did not have the physical capacity to procreate a child."

According to the Daily Mail, her mother relied on government welfare while working as a house cleaner and waitress, eventually taking legal action to confirm Steve was Lisa’s biological father. A DNA test verified paternity, though Steve continued to reject the result at first. In 1980, despite being a multimillionaire, he was ordered to pay $500 per month in child support and provide medical insurance until Lisa turned 18.

When Lisa was nine, Steve formally acknowledged her as his daughter. She later moved in with him during her teenage years in an effort to repair their relationship. However, she later said they spent little time together.

She went on to study at Harvard University, spending a year abroad at King’s College London before graduating in 2000. Steve reportedly refused to pay her Harvard tuition, which was instead covered by wealthy neighbors.

After university, Lisa moved to Manhattan and pursued a writing career, with her work featured in publications including Vogue and The Oprah Magazine. She is now married to Bill Morein, a former Microsoft employee and tech startup founder, according to Business Insider. The couple have a son, Thomas, and Morein also has two daughters from a previous relationship.

Despite early hardships, Lisa later described her upbringing with Steve as something she felt "grateful" for. During the promotion of his authorized biography in 2011, Steve publicly acknowledged past regrets: "I've done a lot of things I'm not proud of, such as getting my girlfriend pregnant when I was 23 and the way I handled that."

However, other members of the Steve family disagreed with parts of Lisa’s memoir. "Lisa is part of our family, so it was with sadness that we read her book, which differs dramatically from our memories of those times," Laurene said in a statement to The New York Times. "The portrayal of Steve is not the husband and father we knew."

"Steve loved Lisa and regretted that he was not the father he should have been during her early childhood. It was a great comfort to Steve to have Lisa home with all of us during the last days of his life, and we are all grateful for the years we spent together as a family."

Reed, 33, is the eldest son of Steve and Laurene. He was named after Reed College, the Oregon-based liberal arts school where Steve briefly studied before dropping out, as described in Walter Isaacson’s biography Steve Jobs. Now based in San Francisco, Reed maintains a low public profile, with no active social media accounts other than LinkedIn.

According to Isaacson, Steve was closest to Reed among all his children — a dynamic that reportedly created a distance with his daughters. Reed was introduced to the business world early. As a high school senior, he accompanied his father to Hawaii to observe strategic meetings with Apple executives. "I want you to be in every single one because you'll learn more in those two days than you would in two years at business school," Steve told him.

Reed earned an honors degree in history and international security from Stanford University in 2014, followed by a master’s degree in history the next year. He later worked at Emerson Collective, a nonprofit founded by his mother, which focuses on education, immigration, the environment, journalism, and healthcare.

In August 2023 U.S. publication The Wall Street Journal reported that Reed had left Emerson to launch Yosemite, a venture capital firm focused on cancer treatment technologies. During a panel discussion at Breakthrough Summit West, a health-focused conference hosted by the health-oriented news outlet Stat News in San Francisco, U.S., he criticized President Donald Trump’s proposed budget cuts to cancer research. He described the proposed reductions as "a tragedy" that "are absolutely disserving the American people."

Erin, 30, is the most private of Steve’s children. She does not maintain any public social media accounts, though her younger sister Eve shared a birthday tribute to her in 2021, posting a childhood photo and writing: "To my lifelong best friend – happy birthday!! I love you I love you I love you."

According to the Daily Mail, Erin studied architecture at Tulane University.

In Isaacson’s biography, she is described as "quiet, introspective" and with "a personal sensitivity more mature than her father's."

Speaking to Isaacson, she said: "He does his best to be both a father and the CEO of Apple, and he juggles those pretty well. Sometimes I wish I had more of his attention, but I know the work he's doing is very important and I think it's really cool, so I'm fine. I don't really need more attention."

Eve, 27, is the youngest of Steve’s children and the most publicly visible. She has built a career as a model and equestrian.

Her modeling debut came in 2020 with a Glossier campaign featuring "Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney and RuPaul's Drag Race finalist Naomi Smalls, according to U.S. magazine Vanity Fair. In 2022 she signed with DNA Model Management — the same agency that represents American models Kaia Gerber and Emily Ratajkowski — and walked the runway at Paris Fashion Week. She has since become a regular at major fashion events, most recently appearing at the Louis Vuitton Womenswear Fall/Winter 2024–2025 show during Paris Fashion Week in March 2024.

Before launching her modeling career she studied science, technology and society at Stanford University, graduating in 2021. As a student, in 2019, she was ranked No. 5 in the world among riders under age 25 by Canadian equestrian publication Horse Sport.

Steve once said he envisioned Eve either leading Apple or becoming U.S. president. "She's a pistol and has the strongest will of any kid I've ever met," he told Isaacson.

In August 2024 Eve made her relationship with British Olympic gold medalist equestrian Harry Charles public, congratulating him on Instagram following his win at the Paris Olympics.

According to Hello! magazine, the couple wed on July 26, 2025, in a $6.7-million church ceremony in the Cotswolds, Britain, where Eve reportedly entered through a back entrance to avoid media attention.
