While Bangkok has received 30.3 million visitors, London came in third with 22.7 million, followed Macao with 20.4 million, according to the report that ranks cities on criteria including tourism, sustainability, economic performance and health and safety.
Istanbul rounded out the top five with 19.7 million visitors.
The rest of top 10 were Dubai (19.5 million), Mecca (18.7 million), Antalya (18.6 million), Paris (18.3 million) and Kuala Lumpur (17.3 million).
With revitalized neighborhoods, a thriving dining and nightlife scene, world-class cultural institutions and some of Asia’s most ambitious tourism campaigns, Hong Kong is emerging as a favorite destination of tourists, British magazine Time Out said.
Euromonitor International said rising security concerns, growing tourism flows, overtourism and inflationary pressures are behind the decision by several destinations to revise entry fees and speed up the adoption of electronic travel authorization systems, which will influence the long-term tourism appeal of cities.
