Three-second thief snatches golden necklace in Saigon

Camera footage shows a man wearing a delivery service's costume driving a motorbike, snatching a golden necklace from another man in HCMC.

The 62-year-old victim was walking back to his home along an alley in Thu Duc’s Binh Trung Dong Ward on Thursday afternoon when he saw a man wearing the costume of a delivery app approaching from the opposite direction on motorbike.

In a blink of an eye, the motorcyclist snatched the man’s necklace and drove away. The man, who was topless, tried to chase after the robber but failed to catch him.

The entire incident took place within three seconds, as captured by the CCTV camera covering the alley.

"As he approached he nodded at me as if he knew me and then acted so fast I could not react in time," the man said.

His necklace is worth an ounce of gold which is priced around VND62 million ($2,700) on the market.

Police have extracted the footage to trace the robber.
