More thunderstorms are expected through the day, according to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center.
Forecasts for the morning are for cloud masses to develop over districts Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, 1, 3, and 12, causing thunderstorms.
The areas are expected to have five to 15 mm of rainfall, with some areas receiving more than 15 mm within an hour. Strong gusts of wind are also expected.
This morning's rains, along with showers on Friday afternoon, have helped relieve the hot weather that plagued the city for months.
The rains were accompanied by thunder.

According to the meteorological agency, after the rains early in the morning, sunny weather will resume, with hot conditions expected by noon.
Thunderstorms are likely to reoccur on Saturday evening.
On Friday afternoon many parts of HCMC and neighboring Dong Nai Province experienced heavy rains for 10-20 minutes.
Most of the rains occurred in the city’s Thu Duc City and the two outlying districts of Hoc Mon and Cu Chi.
The rains delighted residents who had endured prolonged heat. Many excitedly shot photos and videos to share on social media.
The precipitation brought down the temperature by 4-5 degrees Celsius.

Le Dinh Quyet, head of the meteorological forecasting department at the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center, said atmospheric disturbances caused localized rain in HCMC and Dong Nai.
He said the southeastern region comprising HCMC, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Binh Phuoc are expected to receive more rain starting this weekend before officially entering the rainy season by mid-May.
The weather office has advised people to avoid early-season rains as it may contain high levels of air pollutants.
Some may catch colds due to the sudden temperature change.
Over the past four months in the south, HCMC in particular, the number of heat wave episodes - with maximum temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius for at least two consecutive days – has been similar to previous El Nino years.
But each hot period has lasted longer, with the current heat wave starting on March 29 and persisting for more than a month, a record since 1997.
