Fifteen Vietnamese who were labor trafficked to Cambodia were repatriated on Tuesday after being detained by immigration.

Border guards in Tay Ninh Province received the victims, who were handed over by Cambodian authorities, at the Moc Bai border gate.

They were believed to have been taken to Cambodia with promises of high-paying jobs.

A representative of the Moc Bai border gate guards said the 15 are aged 18-30. Only 10 of them have a passport, and the others do not have any personal documents, and were all detained at immigration while entering.

The Vietnamese embassy then requested Cambodian authorities to quickly complete the procedures to send them back to Vietnam.

The border guards and other authorities are verifying their identities and completing procedures to send them home.

Localities on the Cambodia border, like Tay Ninh, Long An and An Giang provinces, have in recent times been receiving a large number of Vietnamese rescued from Cambodian casinos and other businesses.

A majority of them are tricked into going to Cambodia with promises of high-paying jobs, but are then exploited and forced to lure more of their compatriots to that country.
