Vietnam draw Thailand 2-2 in U23 Asian Cup

By Hoang Nguyen    JUN. 2, 2022

Vietnam and Thailand shared the points in their first game of 2022 U23 Asian Cup Thursday night.

Vietnam had a super start in the game. After just 20 seconds, Phan Tuan Tai already scored after his shot deflected of a Thailand defender and went in.

Vietnam maintained pressure on Thailand and their coach had to make early substitutions. One of them made a difference as in the 35th minute, Benjamin Davies equalized for Thailand. His shot was blocked by Nguyen Van Toan but still went in after this keeper didn’t use the right technique to save the ball.

After that, Toan was injured and replaced by Quan Van Chuan.

In the second half, both Vietnam and Thailand put several players on to increase their attacking power.

And Nguyen Van Tung, one of the subs got Vietnam the lead one more time in the 72nd minute with an unstoppable volley.

It was thought that Vietnam would claim three points but when it’s only two minutes left on added time, Thailand equalized again with a header by Suphanat Mueanta.

The game ended 2-2 and both teams settled for a point.
