Vietnam score third fastest goal in history of U23 Asian Cup

Phan Tuan Tai's goal in the 17th second against Thailand on Thursday proved the fastest in U23 Asian Cup so far this year and the third fastest in its history.

Tuan Tai received a false pass from a Thai defender on the left flank. After a few moves, he decided to take a shot from 25 meters. The ball deflected off Jonathan Khemdee's shoulder and went in. The clock stood at 17 seconds. This is the fastest goal in the 2022 U23 Asian Cup, which started June 1, and the fastest since South Korean midfielder Cho Jae-wan scored against Malaysia in the 12th second during the quarterfinals of the 2018 edition.

If qualifiers are included, the record belongs to Marwan Farhad, who scored in the seventh second for the host UAE against Oman in 2022.

Tuan Tai also contributed to the second goal of Vietnam against Thailand, making an inch-perfect pass for Nguyen Van Tung to score in the 72nd minute. The game ended 2-2 after Thailand equalized with a last-minute goal.

Vietnam will face South Korea in the next game on Sunday. The 2022 U23 Asian Cup is hosted in Uzbekistan.
