Vietnam has received 11.4 million foreign visitors so far this year, 45.8% up year-on-year and 1% more than in pre-Covid times, with South Koreans and Chinese driving the increase.

South Korea remained the country's largest source of visitors with over three million arrivals.

It was followed by mainland China (2.4 million), Taiwan (849,000), the U.S. (529,000), and Japan (460,938), according to the General Statistics Office.

Rounding off the top 10 were Australia (314,000), Malaysia (313,000), India (311,000), Cambodia (294,000), and Thailand (274,000).

In comparison, Thailand notched up 23 million foreign arrivals. It expects another 12.2 million arrivals this year.

Since July it has increased the number of countries and territories whose citizens can enter without visas and stay for two months from 57 to 93.

Vietnam waives visas for nationals of 25 countries and needs another seven million visitors to meet its target for this year of 18 million arrivals.
