According to a report by Oriental Daily on Wednesday, Chan took on this new gig with the help of fellow actor Vin Choi. In a video shared on her social media, the actress explained that she had carefully considered the challenges before deciding to embrace this career shift.
At 43, Chan said she is not worried or fearful about starting fresh in a new job with little to her name.
"I want to learn from those with more experience to do well and become a skilled vendor," she said.
Choi, who has worked in the night market selling chicken feet for several years, advised Chan that she might face hurtful comments. Chan responded: "I’ve thought it through, and there’s no job that can’t be done in life."
Choi has spoken about how his family has been doing well due to the income from his night market work.
Chan, who hails from Guangdong, China, gained fame when she competed in the 2000 Miss Hong Kong pageant, winning the Best Skin award. She later signed a contract with TVB and appeared in several popular series, including "My Best Friend’s Story," "Triumph in the Skies," "Wars of In-laws," "Forensic Heroes," and "The Academy."
However, since 2019, Chan has not landed any acting roles. She shared that her brief fame from the beauty pageant and her acting career didn’t help her secure stable work after leaving TVB. Chan even tried opening a coffee shop, but it went bankrupt, and she also trained as a massage therapist.
In recent years, many actors in Hong Kong’s film and television industry have turned to other careers due to the challenges of sustaining a livelihood in the entertainment industry. Among them are Oscar Li, Sammy Sum, and Miao Yu, who have also found new paths outside the industry.
