According to Dimsum Daily, in a video shared on his Instagram, Sum explained that driving for Uber helps him unwind and cover tunnel toll fees.
"I’ve always enjoyed driving, and I thought it would be a good idea to register with a platform that sets routes for me," he said. "If I’m lucky enough to meet fans or other passengers, I can chat with them while driving—it’s a win-win."
He also discussed the financial pressures he faces as the owner of a gym he invested in two years ago.
"Being a first-time entrepreneur is challenging, especially in this economic climate," he said. "I don’t take a salary, but I make sure my employees are paid on time. I’m determined not to give up on this business."
Sum’s video followed a post on Threads, where a user revealed that after booking an Uber ride, he discovered his driver was the actor, who was driving a BMW iX, according to 8days. The netizen also revealed that Sum holds a 4.96 rating on the app.
At 42, Sum first auditioned for TVB’s talent casting program TVbeople in 2006, earning a two-year artiste contract with the company along with six other winners. He then enrolled in TVB’s acting classes, graduating from the 22nd Artiste Training Class of 2007 before appearing in several dramas.
In 2014, Sum gained widespread recognition for his role in the crime drama "Line Walker," which led to a nomination for Most Improved Male Artiste at the TVB Anniversary Awards.
