The arrest made on April 26 came a week after the female tourist complained to the police she had been raped in a living room of the villa, police told the press on May 1 as quoted by The Bali Times.
After being arrested, police took the man to a local hospital for medical examinations. However, he managed to flee the hospital before being arrested for a second time on April 28.
Police also said when he was asked to pay the rent for the villa, he refused and damaged the interior of the villa, causing damage of Rp91 million (US$5,700), according to Nusa Bali news site.
He entered Bali on a tourist visa and rented a villa between April 18-22.
