A yellow Ferrari 458 caught fire on a highway in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China, with the driver and passenger escaping unharmed.

On July 1, the Italian sports car was driving on the highway when flames erupted from its rear, according to Sina. A driver behind noticed the fire, quickly overtook the car, and shouted to alert the driver.

Despite other motorists honking and shouting warnings, the two women inside the car appeared unaware of the danger, continuing to drive in the far-left lane. It was not until the driver realized the severity of the situation that she pulled over, and both women safely exited the vehicle.

Firefighters soon arrived to extinguish the flames, but the rear of the car was nearly completely burned, leaving the engine irreparable.

Later that evening, a man claiming to be the Ferrari's owner explained that the car had been rented, and the fire may have been caused by improper operation. He added that the vehicle had sustained severe damage, and he was negotiating compensation with the renter.

The base price for the Ferrari 458 Italia started at US$225,325, while the Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, the range-topping model, was priced at $322,764, according to Supercartribe.
