Vietnam's Sam Minh Phat will step into the ring with China's top boxer Dian Xing Zhu at the WBO Global Prelude professional boxing event this month.

The event will be organized by local boxing center Cocky Buffalo and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

Its highlight will be the bout between Phat and Zhu in the minimumweight (48 kg) class. The winner will get a shot at a fight for the WBO world title.

The match promises to be entertaining with both boxers having impressive stats: Phat has nine wins, including seven by knockout, from 13 fights while Dian also has seven knockouts from only nine fights.

They are respectively ranked 73rd and 49th in the world minimumweight rankings.

Dian, currently Chin’s number one in the minimumweight division, won the WBC Asian Championship in 2019.

Another Vietnamese boxer, Nguyen Van Hai, is also on the card at the event in the super featherweight division (59 kg).

The seven-time national champion will fight Abdul Motalib, a Bangladeshi boxer nicknamed "The Silent Killer," who has five straight wins.

The WBO Global Prelude will also feature some other notable fights: between 17-year-old Vietnamese-Korean Lee Juyeong and Indonesia’s Dedy Imprax, Philippine boxer Mark John Yap and Mohon Ali of Bangladesh and veteran Papua New Guinean Junior Kauko Raka and China’s Xiao Tao Su.
