The game between Thanh Hoa FC and Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) on Wednesday will take place behind closed doors for pandemic safety.

Home team Thanh Hoa had sold 5,000 of a planned 12,000 tickets when, on Wednesday morning, the provincial People's Committee requested the match be played behind closed doors as a measure to prevent the risk of Covid-19.

"Because of the pandemic, the club has no other choice but to guarantee public safety. Playing at home without spectators will be a disadvantage for Thanh Hoa. All 5,000 tickets will be refunded," said Cao Tien Doan, Thanh Hoa FC chairman.

Thanh Hoa are seventh on the table with 14 points, while their opponent HAGL are first with 25.

Vietnamese officials are warning about an imminent Covid-19 wave, with neighboring countries like Thailand, Laos and Cambodia recording a surge in infections.

It is recommended everyone fully complies with Ministry of Health-mandated protocols to prevent infection, including wearing masks, disinfecting hands, social distancing, avoiding big crowds, and completing health declarations while traveling.
