German tourist killed after motorbike falls into abyss in northern Vietnam

A 64-year-old German man died while his 61-year-old wife was injured in a traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday morning in the northern province of Hoa Binh.

According to Mai Chau District’s authorities, the accident happened when the man identified as Freddy Host was driving a motorbike, carrying his wife Susanne Heike from Dong Tan Commune in Mai Chau to Chieng Yen Commune of neighbouring Son La Province.

The tourists fell into a 40-meter-deep abyss at around 10:30 a.m.

The accident killed the husband while the wife suffered from multiple injuries.

She is now treated at the Hoa Binh General Hospital.

As soon as the accident occurred, local police coordinated with agencies to promptly examine the scene and the body of the deceased and investigate to clarify the accident’s cause.
