"This game was not easy because the Philippines defended with a large number of players. We are not unfamiliar with opponents like that. There are many reasons for this draw, but I can't list them all in this press conference," Park said after the game in Viet Tri Stadium in the northern province of Phu Tho.
Vietnam dominated in possession and the number of chances created throughout the game, but couldn't find a goal. The slippery pitch and light rain along with thick defense of the Philippines created problems in finding the net.
"It's obvious that I'm not happy with this draw. The opponents used a dense defense system and Vietnam’s problem was to find a way through it. This is one thing that we need to improve so we can play similar opponents in the future. Football is a game with many variables. We have to accept this result and try our best to get the best results for the journey ahead," Park said.
One of the problems Vietnam faced in this game was the ability to connect, even with two national players Do Hung Dung and Nguyen Hoang Duc playing in the midfield. In the second half, Park replaced Dung with young talent Nguyen Hai Long, but the move didn’t work.
Vietnam will play the next game on May 13 against Myanmar. Park said the next days will be used for the players to recover their stamina, reflect on their performance in the previous game and prepare for the next one.
