Unable to afford iPhone for daughter, Chinese father begs forgiveness

The footage was allegedly recorded by a pedestrian in China's Shanxi Province earlier this month, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Jinyun Video.

In the video, a girl supposedly yelled at her father for not being able to afford her an iPhone while other parents could. The father then kneeled on the ground and shook his head. The daughter then made the father get up.

The pedestrian, whose surname is Zhong, said he felt sad for the father and angry at the daughter, The Star reported.

The video went viral on social media in China, garnering millions of views on platforms like Weibo and Douyin. Several people criticized the girl’s actions.

An user on Weibo commented that consumerism has negatively affected the youth, making them more obsessed with material things. Another commented that the father’s action was also inappropriate, as he did not address his daughter’s wrongdoing.
