The Ho Chi Minh City traffic police have suspended an officer who was caught on camera kicking a motorcyclist who refused to pull over.

Captain Duong Hai of the District 3 traffic police was patrolling on the afternoon of Dec. 5 when he saw a 30-year-old man driving in the wrong lane on Ba Thang Hai and Su Van Hanh streets in District 10, and signaled him to stop.

But the man did not comply and instead tried to flee, weaving through traffic toward District 3.

Hai chased after him.

When they reached Hoa Binh Theater, the motorcyclist climbed a sidewalk.

Hai caught up with him as he got back to the road and first kicked the front of his vehicle, causing the motorcyclist to lose balance. But he continued to drive on and Hai kicked him on the body this time, causing him crash into another motorcyclist.

A traffic police officer is seen kicking a moving motorcycle on Ba Thang Hai Street in HCMC's District 10, Dec. 5, 2023, in a video provided by a local traveler.

The entire incident was captured by passers-by, and on Thursday the video was all over social media.

The driver has been hit with the following violations: driving in the wrong lane, disobeying police orders and not having a driver's license and vehicle registration, according to the traffic police.

But they admitted it was not right for Hai to kick the motorcyclist, and it affected the image of the traffic police and posed a danger to other drivers.
