Lifer recaptured after third time escaping prison

A prison inmate in the north central province of Thanh Hoa was recaptured Wednesday after escaping from jail for the third time while serving a life sentence.

Trieu Quan Su, 32, was wanted by the police after escaping from the T-974 prison in Thach Thanh District at around 5 p.m. Tuesday. The wanted order was issued the same night.

Police said people should refrain from leaving their homes and inform authorities upon sighting him.

A representative of Thanh Long Commune on Tuesday said local police and militia members were dispatched to find Su.

Su was recaptured Wednesday afternoon in Ha Trung District, police said.

Su used to be in the army, but frequently stole things and eventually deserted. In 2012, Su murdered a coffee shop owner to steal properties. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by a martial court in 2013 for murder, stealing and deserting.

His first escape from prison was in 2015, then another time in 2020.
