Festival to be held to celebrate 50 years of UK - Vietnam relations

The U.K. Festival will be organized in HCMC's downtown on Saturday to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Throughout the festival day from 9 a.m. to 22:30 p.m., there will be an exhibition along Le Loi Street in District 1 where 70 booths from U.K. companies and institutions will showcase their services and products, the British Consulate - General Ho Chi Minh City announced Thursday.

Among them will be educational booths, where representatives from more than 20 renowned British universities and institutions will showcase their education offers.

Booths in the festival will also show an array of British products from popular brands in retail, healthcare, and financial services.

Visitors can also find out more information of leading projects and technologies in renewable energy.

The festival will also feature two reading sessions by British Ambassador to Vietnam, Iain Frew, and British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Emily Hamblin. The books chosen are popular among Vietnamese children, which include Peppa Pig and Harry Potter.

As scheduled, the two reading sessions will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The event also includes an opportunity for fans to meet Liverpool FC legend Glen Johnson from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., there will be a military band performing on the street.

Starting from 7:30 p.m., there will be live music performance by U.K. boyband 911, who will be joined by Vietnamese artists.

After HCMC, the U.K. Festival will be brought to Da Nang City on October 16.
