Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik said Tuesday that he wishes to bolster bilateral relations between Vietnam and Denmark in green growth and energy transformation.

Receiving Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth during their official visit to Vietnam Tuesday, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Vietnam-Denmark relations were developing positively and there was still room for cooperation.

According to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Phuc requested that Denmark continues to support Vietnam with experience, technology and finance in the deployment of climate-related commitments; and that Danish businesses boost their investments in Vietnam.

During his visit, Frederik shared his visions regarding sustainable development and said he was impressed with Vietnam's efforts to meet its commitment to reduce carbon emissions to zero in 2050.

Frederik also said he believed Vietnam and Denmark have many opportunities for cooperating in green growth and energy transformation, adding that he wished for the establishment of a Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Several Danish businesses are seeking opportunities to cooperate with Vietnamese businesses, especially in green growth, renewable energy and efficient energy use, Frederik said.

Also Tuesday morning, Frederik met with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, who thanked Denmark for supporting the Vietnamese community in the country to live, work and study.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth are visiting Vietnam from October 31 to November 3, on Xuan's invitation. It’s the second time that Frederik is visiting Vietnam, the first time being in 2011.

Vietnam and Denmark established a strategic partnership in 2011. Trade turnover between the two countries reached $588.2 million in 2021, and trade turnover in the first eight months of this year reached $502.9 million, a 22% increase year-on-year.
