While searching for his family's cattle in Trac Noi Forest, Ho Van Quan, 65, was attacked by a male buffalo and suffered head injuries, broken ribs and a punctured lung. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but died on Saturday afternoon.
Ho Thi Ven, Chairwoman of Huong Lap Commune in Huong Hoa District, said another person in the commune was also injured by a buffalo and hospitalized. Ho Van Kieu, 16, was attacked by a male buffalo and tore his thigh on Saturday morning while looking for his cattle in the area where Quan was attacked.
People in Huong Lap and Huong Viet Commune often let their buffaloes and cows roam free in the forest for months to search for food. To ensure safety, commune authorities and the Huong Lap border guard station advise people not to go into Trac Noi Forest.
Authorities are determining whether the buffalo that attacked people is a wild or domestic buffalo to take measures.
