Some 325,000 people have not received any money from a HCMC Covid-19 relief package released in 2021 due ostensibly to a lack of funds.

They all live in the three districts of Binh Tan, Cu Chi and Binh Chanh, officials said Tuesday at a meeting between the city Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Binh Chanh administration.

In 2021 HCMC unveiled three support packages for its most vulnerable citizens.

The first package of VND886 billion (US$37.4 million) was released in June that year, the second, of over VND900 billion, in August and the third, of VND7.3 trillion, a month after that.

The department's deputy director, Nguyen Van Lam, said everyone should have received the relief money in 2021.

The city administration said on more than one occasion it would soon allocate funds but has yet to do so.

The money is likely to be disbursed by March.
