According to The Star, in an interview with HK01, Chiu shared that she filmed two TVB dramas last year, but this year, she has only had one project with the broadcaster.
"There aren’t any new projects planned for now, but I’m doing my best while I wait," Chiu said. "I’ve been surviving on a basic salary... It’s more or less the same."
To support herself, Chiu has turned to online influencing and writing food reviews. In addition, she has been practicing yoga for the past two years and plans to explore sound bowl therapy this year, which she hopes may turn into another income stream.
Despite diversifying her interests, Chiu remains eager to return to acting.
"If any opportunity arises, I’ll definitely go for it," she said. "I really hope to secure more acting gigs."
Chiu, 36, made her acting debut in 2013 with the sitcom "Come Home Love." She has since starred in popular TVB dramas such as "Big White Duel," "Sinister Beings," and "Speakers of Law."
Many of her peers at TVB, including Michael Tao and Benjamin Yuen, have also shared about their challenges in securing new roles amid the network’s struggling production landscape. Some other TVB actors have had to pivot to different career paths, with actor Peter Pang taking up a singing gig at a nightclub in China, actor Niklas Lam running a lemon tea stall, and actor Man Yeung working as a security guard at Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse’s concert.
