In an appearance on a talk show with Hong Kong filmmaker Gary Yeung, Fan described himself as an introverted person, which helps him enjoy solitude without feeling isolated. He reminisced about his younger days when, after filming, colleagues would invite him to karaoke. However, he would often make an excuse to leave early, as he wasn’t fond of social gatherings.
Fan expressed contentment with his current life, enjoying restful sleep and the freedom to wake up whenever he likes.
"I have food, drinks, and can go out to have fun," he said. "With such a relaxed life, what more could I ask for?"
Regarding his love life and rumors about a relationship with Hong Kong actress Kara Wai, Fan clarified that although they had worked together in films, their interactions were limited to the professional sphere. In recent years, he has watched her performances and praised her acting skills, acknowledging her continued popularity.
The actor also shared that a few years ago, he underwent surgeries to address leg numbness, shoulder issues from his younger days playing sports, and eye surgery. While his health is stable now, Fan admitted that he no longer enjoys traveling or going out often. Instead, he finds comfort in staying at home where he feels content and has everything he needs.
Over the past five years, he hasn’t met with his "Justice Bao" co-stars but occasionally exchanges messages with Taiwanese actor Jin Chao Chun, who played the lead role of Bao Zheng, he said.

Living in Taipei, Fan rarely attends entertainment events, revealing that despite receiving acting offers, he has no plans to return to the screen. The actor explained that when he took a small role in a film project two years ago, he struggled with poor appetite and restless sleep, which he attributed to his mind being constantly preoccupied with scripts, scenes, and characters. Since then, he has opted for a simpler life, finding peace in being a viewer rather than an actor.
While Fan achieved widespread fame across Asia for his portrayal of Gongsun Ce in "Justice Bao," he admitted that the role is not his favorite. He fondly recalls his time acting in adaptations of Taiwanese writer Chiung Yao’s novels in the 1990s, where he collaborated with Hong Kong actress Leanne Liu in projects such as "Deep Garden," "Lovers Under the Rain," "Where the Seagull Flies," "One Side of the Water," and "Mute Wife."
Fan graduated from National Taiwan University with a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and initially worked in a stable job before pursuing his passion for acting. Starting with small roles, he became a well-known figure in Taiwan.
"Justice Bao" is a 236-episode television series that aired on the Chinese Television System (CTS) from Feb. 1993 to Jan. 1994. The series follows the investigations of Bao Zheng, aided by Gongsun Ce and Zhan Zhao (played by Hong Kong actor Kenny Ho).
