According to Znews, Hsu’s funeral was held on March 15 in Taiwan. On the same day, Ma shared photos on Instagram of the children engaging in crafts, confirming their absence from the funeral.
The situation sparked criticism online, with a netizen commenting on Ma’s Douyin post, chastising her for not bringing the children to their mother’s funeral.
"How could you take someone else’s biological children to do crafts at such a time? You should be aware of your own role," the commenter admonished.
In response, Ma said: "Shouldn’t the children have a normal life? They are just kids and don’t want to be stuck at home all day."
"Moreover, like you, we did not receive any notification about that event. We only found out through the Internet!" she stated, adding that assumptions should not be made without full knowledge of the circumstances.
Hsu, known for her roles in drama series "Meteor Garden," "Mars," and "Summer’s Desire," died at 49 in Japan due to pneumonia-related complications, her family announced on Feb. 3.
Hsu married Wang, a Chinese businessman, in 2011, but they divorced in 2021, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple shares two children: Wang Hsi Yueh, 11, and Wang Hsi Lin, 9,
Hsu then remarried in Feb. 2022 to her former boyfriend, South Korean musician DJ Koo, 55.
Meanwhile, Wang, 44 went on to marry Ma, a 26-year-old businesswoman and online influencer, in May 2024.
At Hsu’s funeral, DJ Koo appeared frail and emotional as he carried her ashes to the burial site, Dimsum Daily reported. Hsu’s younger sister, Taiwanese host Dee Hsu, stayed close to their mother to provide comfort.
Following local traditions, Hsu’s mother and other older family members remained in the car during the ceremony, as it is customary for elders to avoid attending burials.
