According to The Star, Fan voiced her aspirations during a press conference held on June 16 in the Malaysian state of Melaka, where she is serving as a tourism ambassador.
"If I get the chance, I would like to live in Kuala Lumpur as well and enjoy its tall skyline," she said.
She said her interest in Malaysia was sparked largely by what she learned from a Malaysian colleague. She also praised Melaka for its rich history, drawing cultural parallels between it and China’s southwestern province of Yunnan, and recommended it as an attractive destination for Chinese tourists due to the widespread fluency in Mandarin in the state.
Fan, 43, began her career in entertainment at the age of 17. She has since achieved fame as an actress, model, television producer, and singer, and was recognized by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in 2017.
After being fined US$128 million for tax evasion in 2018, Fan has maintained a lower public profile.
She was appointed as Melaka’s tourism ambassador earlier this year, a role expected to leverage her popularity to promote the destination, The Straits Times noted.
