5 Vietnamese footballers married to wealthy heiresses

Forwards Nguyen Cong Phuong and center-back Do Duy Manh are among the Vietnamese footballers wed to women from affluent backgrounds.

Forward Nguyen Cong Phuong

Phuong, 29, astonished many with his announcement of engagement to To Ngoc Vien Minh, 29, in June 2020 following three years of private dating. The couple celebrated their union with lavish ceremonies in Minh’s native Ho Chi Minh City, Phuong’s native Nghe An in central Vietnam, and Phu Quoc Island that same year.

Minh’s father previously directed the State Bank of Vietnam’s branch in Ho Chi Minh City. She earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from RMIT University and studied in Belgium.

She now oversees a sports marketing business that she and Phuong established.

Phuong was trained at the Hoang Anh Gia Lai – Arsenal JMG Academy and moved up to the senior Hoang Anh Gia Lai team in 2015. In the same year, he was voted Vietnam’s "Best Young Player of the Year."

He played in the 2015 SEA Games where Vietnam won the bronze medal and currently represents Japan’s Yokohama Football Club.

Center-back Do Duy Manh

Manh, 28, wed Nguyen Quynh Anh, 28, in early 2020.

Anh is the younger daughter of businessman Nguyen Giang Dong, former president of Saigon Football Club and owner of a business that specializes in trading automobiles, motorcycles, and food and beverages.

She is a graduate of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and now manages a fashion and cosmetics business with her sister.

Manh debuted with the national team in 2015, competed in the 2015 SEA Games where Vietnam secured a bronze, and participated in the 2019 and 2023 AFC Asian Cups. He is a player for Hanoi Football Club.

Left-back Nguyen Phong Hong Duy

Duy, 28, married Pham Kieu Oanh, 29, on May 19 in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai after a discreet three-year relationship.

Oanh’s father is the general director of a rubber company in Gia Lai. She holds a master’s degree in Vietnamese Studies from the University of Education at Da Nang University and runs a jewelry and feng shui gemstone business.

Duy debuted with the national team in 2017, was part of the victorious 2018 AFF Cup team, and now plays for Thep Xanh Nam Dinh Football Club.

Center-back Bui Tien Dung

Dung, 29, went public with his relationship with Nguyen Khanh Linh, 27, in 2018. They got engaged in June 2019 and celebrated their wedding in early 2021 with ceremonies held in Hanoi, Linh’s hometown of Bac Ninh in northern Vietnam, and Dung’s hometown of Ha Tinh in central Vietnam.

Linh studied in Singapore before taking over her family’s hotel and karaoke enterprises in Bac Ninh.

Dung debuted on the national team in 2015. He was part of the squad that won the runner-up title at the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, and currently plays for Viettel Football Club.

Defender Doan Van Hau

Hau, 25, and Doan Hai My, 23, married in 2023 after a three-year relationship.

My, who holds an undergraduate degree from Hanoi Law University and made it to the top 10 of the Miss Vietnam 2020 pageant, comes from a well-off family in Hanoi where her parents are entrepreneurs in the food and beverage sector.

She currently operates a cosmetic store and also works as a model.

Hau became famous for his exceptional early career performances, establishing himself as a regular starter on the national football team and contributing to Vietnam’s 2018 SEA Games triumph.

He currently plays for the Cong An Ha Noi (Hanoi Police) Football Club.
