The 0-2 defeat against China on Tuesday put an end to Vietnam's streak of 23 undefeated exhibition matches which lasted over nine years.

The streak of Vietnam only included exhibition matches under world football governor FIFA. Before losing to China, the last time that Vietnam lost a friendly was on September 11, 2014, a 1-3 defeat to Palestine at My Dinh National Stadium.

Since then, Vietnam have not lost in 23 friendlies, until after they won against Palestine again last month at Thien Truong Stadium.

During that nine years, Vietnam won 16 and drew seven friendlies.

In the game at Dalian Sports Center Stadium on Tuesday night, Vietnam conceded two goals in the second half, with Wang Qiuming and Wu Lei scoring. Vietnam had 63% possession in this game and wasted many great scoring chances in the first half.

Although playing against a strong team, head coach Philippe Troussier did not hesitate to put young players on, namely defender Ho Van Cuong, 20, midfielder Nguyen Dinh Bac, 19, and defender Phan Tuan Tai, 22.

The team will continue training in East Asia and play a behind-closed-door friendly with Uzbekistan on October 13 and then an open friendly with South Korea four days later.
