An endangered turtle weighing over 100 kg was caught in the net of fishermen and eventually released back to the sea.

Pham Thanh, 58, found the turtle stuck in his net at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. He and his neighbors then brought the turtle into the shore and informed local authorities.

Rangers of Phu Loc District said the turtle is the heaviest one ever found by fishermen in Thua Thien-Hue. The turtle was eventually released back to the sea.

Sea turtles are listed among endangered species in Vietnam, meaning their sale and transportation are banned by law.
