Profit halves for ex-Shark Tank panelist's company

The Infrastructure and Transport Construction Investment Joint Stock Company reported its after-tax profits fell by 47% year-on-year in the first half to VND26 billion ($1.07 million).

The company, whose chairman is former Shark Tank panelist Nguyen Thanh Viet, has publicly declared its financial results for the first time.

Its outstanding bonds were worth VND135 billion.

Intracom, as the company is known, started life in 2002 as a state-owned enterprise with interests in property and construction, clean energy and building materials.

It was equitized in 2006, and now has more than 30 subsidiaries in many industries and branches in Singapore and Japan.

Property development remains a key business. It is a major developer in Hanoi with a number of apartment projects. It is also a substantial investor in the hydropower sector with projects.

It recently entered the renewable energy sector with plants generating power from wind, solar and waste.

Intracom has a presence in the medical field, and owns a general hospital, nursing home and oncology hospital. It established the Phuong Dong Medical Complex Company Limited in 2010 with a capital of more than VND1 trillion.
