The figure was given by Forbes, which ranks her as the 33rd wealthiest individual on its 2024 list of Hong Kong’s 50 richest people. The majority of Leong’s wealth reportedly stems from her extensive real estate holdings primarily located in Hong Kong, Macau, and major cities in China.
This is the outcome of her property investment journey, which she started in her early 20s.
"I did not think much," she told Forbes in an interview. "I bought property whenever I had the ability to do so."
By January 2019, her portfolio had grown too large for individual management, prompting the formation of a holding company named L’Avenue. Among the company’s fully-owned assets are more than a dozen buildings in Hong Kong, which serve 300 residential and commercial tenants, and the luxurious L’Arc Macau hotel.
Additionally, the company manages Leong’s smaller assets in Beijing and Shanghai, two golf courses in both China and Australia, other hotels in Macau, including Regency Park in Taipa and Sao Tiago, and a Cantonese restaurant chain called Macau Restaurant.
Besides, Leong serves as the managing director and the largest individual shareholder of SJM Holdings, possessing 12% of the company’s shares. SJM Holdings, founded by Stanley, operates 13 casinos in Macau and is one of only six companies authorized to operate casinos there.
She also serves as an elected legislator in Macau.
With her assets, Leong frequently bestows lavish gifts on her children. For instance, she gifted her son Mario Ho, a mansion valued at HK$500 million (US$64.2 million) for his 25th birthday in 2020, per singaporean news outlet 8days.
According to the South China Morning Post, Leong, 63, was born in China’s southern province of Guangzhou. She initially worked as a treasury clerk at Casino Lisboa, one of Stanley’s properties, while also teaching dance part-time.
By the time she met Ho in the late 1980s, she had already acquired three apartments in Macau and one in Hong Kong.
She had five children with Stanley: Sabrina, Arnaldo, Mario, Alice, and Ho Yau-kai.
