Citing Sohu, Znews reported that speculations of a relationship between Yu and Chung, who are both signed to the same record company, emerged after an audio recording was released. In the recording, Yu alleges that Chung actively pursued him and even proposed marriage, which he rejected. Yu also claimed that following their breakup, Chung began dating another younger man, aged 19.
Further adding to the controversy, Yu released personal photos with Chung, where she is only visible from above, wearing a face mask, along with their message logs. The messages suggest the possibility of a romantic relationship starting in 2022, during which time Yu was still cohabiting with his girlfriend, who underwent an abortion. During the absence of Yu’s girlfriend, Chung allegedly visited Yu’s residence.
Chung has yet to respond to these allegations. However, in earlier interactions, Chung was observed watching Yu’s livestream until 2 a.m. and had given him a total of 41,600 yuan (approximately US$5,700) by 2020, including a single payment of 20,000 yuan for a song request, per AsiaOne. Despite that, Chung refuted the claims of dating a younger man when asked in 2020.
Yu was previously arrested for fraud.
Chung debuted in 2001 with Charlene Choi in the Cantopop duo Twins and began her acting career in 2002, achieving box office success. She took a break from public life for over a year following the unauthorized distribution of private photographs involving her and Hong Kong actor Edison Chen in 2008.
She wed Michale Lai, a Taiwanese gynecologist, in 2018 but the couple separated two years later.
