Vietnam enter SEA Games 31 semifinals after Timor Leste win

Vietnam won 2-0 against Timor Leste, topped group A with 10 points and advanced to the semifinals of SEA Games 31 Sunday night.

Coach Park Hang-seo gave the chance for many young players in the game with Timor Leste as he put most of the key players on the bench.

That explained why the team struggled to score in the first half. They lacked ideas to attack.

In the first 15 minutes, Vietnam mainly used crosses inside to seek for headers, but they were not quality enough.

Only two three chances were created after that but the score remained 0-0 after the first half. In the second half, Vietnam made two substitutions and one of them made a difference.

Le Van Xuan crossed a great ball to Nguyen Van Tung to head it in for Vietnam in the 54th minute. The second goal came 11 minutes later and Van Xuan once again assisted Ho Thanh Minh to score a header goal from a corner.

The 2-0 score remained until the end and Vietnam topped group A with 10 points after four games. Their opponent in the semifinals will be either Malaysia or Thailand of group B.
