The arbitration court hearing the dispute between China and the Philippines over the fiercely contested South China Sea (Vietnam's East Sea) will deliver its decision on July 12, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Philippines has asked the court to rule in the issue, which pits China against several South Asian countries and has escalated tension in the region. China has not taken part in the proceedings and rejects the court's jurisdiction in the matter.
