Individuals with a cold body constitution, those who are pregnant, people just returned from sun exposure, or those about to sleep should avoid drinking coconut water to prevent potential health risks.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Son from University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 3, understanding one's own body constitution helps in selecting suitable fruits. Therefore, before deciding to drink coconut water, make sure you do not fall into the following groups:

Those with a ‘cold body’ constitution

Coconut water is not a good choice for individuals with a cold body constitution (those whose hands and feet get cold easily). The reason is that coconut water has a cooling nature and excessive consumption can disrupt the "yin and yang" balance of metabolic activities, weaken the body and cause fatigue.

Pregnant women in their first trimester

During the first three months of pregnancy, the fetus is not yet firmly attached to the mother's uterus. Therefore, drinking coconut water can chill the body and pose a risk of miscarriage.

Morning sickness symptoms during this period can become more severe due to frequent consumption of coconut water, which can cause bloating and digestive disorders.

After sun exposure

After engaging in outdoor activities or working under the sun, it is not advisable to immediately drink coconut water. It is best to rest and allow the body temperature to stabilize before consuming coconut water in moderate amounts. You should avoid excessive drinking due to thirst.

Before going to bed

A good night's sleep is very important and we need to have a deep sleep of 6-8 hours. Drinking a lot of coconut water before bedtime can disrupt this sleep cycle. Therefore, the best time to drink coconut water is in the morning or afternoon.

Other considerations

Individuals with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, electrolyte imbalances or sensitivity to coconut water should consult a doctor or a nutrition expert before consuming coconut water. Like any other food, when used properly, coconut water can provide many benefits to the body and vice versa.
