Tet schedules, air tickets, poetry, and why there is no cat in the Chinese zodiac are the topics Vietnamese are looking up most on Google before the festival.

Google said on January 13 that the number of searches for Tet holiday schedules went up by 200% in the past week. Searches for Tet air tickets rose dramatically in the last 90 days. Going up by 250% was the keyword "buy train tickets online."

Keywords related to cleaning and decorating the house have also been popular as Tet approaches.

The number of searches for "how to arrange peach blossoms" and "how to decorate the home for Tet" went up dramatically.

In the same context, searches for the five-fruit tray have been common. "Mam Ngu Qua" or five-fruit tray is indispensable at Vietnamese homes among the numerous offerings made at ancestors’ altars during Tet. The five fruits usually are banana, orange, apple, mango and kumquat.

In Vietnamese tradition, 2023 is the Year of the Cat, but in other East Asian countries like China and South Korea, the cat is replaced by the rabbit.

Thus, "why there is no cat in the Chinese zodiac" is one of the top five searches in Vietnam. People are also interested in the significance of the Year of the Cat.

Many look up poems and how to greet or wish for Tet.

This year Google launched a special Trends page for the Lunar New Year in Vietnam for the first time with information for the week and changes every day based on what people are searching for.

The New Year falls on January 22, and it is a seven-day official holiday from the 20th to 26th.
