Wu shared WeChat records online, exposing flirtatious conversations between his wife, Zhang Yue, a chemistry teacher at Shanghai No. 2 Secondary School, and the student, South China Morning Post reported Feb. 22.
The conversations reportedly discussed secret dates and the possibility of obtaining a hotel room. Zhang Yue, believed to be in her 30s, allegedly instructed the student to delete their chat records to conceal their relationship, promising to "control herself" until the boy reached adulthood.
The Shanghai No. 2 Secondary School, responded by announcing the teacher's suspension on Feb. 19 and initiating an investigation.
The teacher may not have violated any laws if the student involved is over 16 years old, a lawyer told the mainland media outlet Modern Express.
The story has gained attraction on Chinese social media, with the hashtag related to the teacher-student affair quickly becoming a trending topic on Weibo. Within 19 hours, it amassed 2.5 billion views and nearly million shares by Feb. 19.
