Miss Grand International 2023 pageant organizers announced that its swimsuit sub-contest would be held again as many contestants tripped while competing on a slippery runway resulting from the rainy weather.

Thai businessman and media personality Nawat Itsaragrisil, president of the Miss Grand International organization, announced the decision Thursday, garnering support from the public audience.

The pageant’s swimsuit sub-contest, which was held on the same day, was delayed for two hours and only started at 12 p.m. instead of at 10 a.m. as initially planned due to heavy rain.

Though the contest organizers had staff constantly wiped the water out of the runway, many contestants tripped and could not walk straight as they had to showcase their swimsuit outfits in heels during the competition. They also had to minimize movements during their performances for the sake of their safety.

Viewers thus suggest the organizers take the weather conditions and the competing site's situation into account during their preparation process for the remaining sub-contests in order to avoid accidents.

The Miss Grand International contest is an annual pageant initiated and operated by Itsaragrisil.

This year’s final night is scheduled to take place on October 25 at HCMC’s Phu Tho Indoor Stadium.
