With $500 airfares, should we travel to Da Lat by car for Tet?

Due to expensive airfares, my husband wants to take my family to travel to Da Lat by car during the upcoming Tet holiday, but I'm afraid of steep and dangerous mountain pass.

My husband and I live in Ho Chi Minh City, and we plan to celebrate Tet in Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong. My family initially planned to travel by plane but round-trip air tickets for a family of three cost up to VND12 million (US$473).

Therefore, my husband wants to drive his own car to Da Lat because he had driven to Nha Trang and Phan Thiet several times before.

I'm afraid that the road to Da Lat is dangerous due to steep mountainous passes, so I'm wondering if we should visit Da Lat by car to celebrate the holiday.

I really hope to receive advice from everyone.
