Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and his Mongolian counterpart Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh witnessed Wednesday the signing of an agreement for mutual visa waiver for the nationals of the two countries.

"We welcome the signing of [the agreement], which will contribute to expanding trade cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchanges," Thuong told reporters after a meeting with Khurelsukh at the President’s Palace in Hanoi.

In 1954 Mongolia became one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Since then their ties have steadily strengthened.

In February Vietnamese passport holders were issued e-visas for traveling to Mongolia.

Mongolia is known for its diverse landscapes made up of steppes, deserts and mountains, nomadic culture, rich history, including Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire, and world-renowned tourist attractions like the Gobi Desert.
