Vietnam Airlines announced it would open a direct route connecting Hanoi with the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh from Oct. 27 as tourism between the two countries grows.

There would be four weekly flights every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, using Airbus A321, the carrier said in a statement.

Currently, passengers who want to fly from Hanoi to Phnom Penh need to transit in Vientiane, Laos.

After Vietnam reopened tourism in March 2022, the number of Cambodian tourists to Vietnam have witnessed significant growth.

In the first six months of this year, Cambodia was Vietnam's fastest-growing market, increasing by 396% against pre-Covid levels, followed by India (312%) and Indonesia (177%).

Cambodia was one of 10 largest sources of visitors for Vietnam’s inbound tourism between January and June.

Vietnam was one of 10 countries that sent the highest number of tourists to Cambodia so far this year, Khmer Times reported.
