According to Next Apple, Hsu and her mother became the subject of public scrutiny after rumors circulated, claiming they, along with DJ Koo–Barbie Hsu’s husband–were selling the late actress’ jewelry, which was reportedly part of her inheritance for her two children.
Hsu strongly denied these allegations. In a statement, she expressed her frustration at the ongoing rumors but admitted feeling powerless as false claims continue to spread online.
"I can’t believe that, even after she has passed away, people still make up lies and defame her. I really want to ask, what do they want?" she said.
It has been two months since Barbie Hsu’s passing, and Hsu has yet to return to her work. Instead, she has found solace in composing a song dedicated to her late sister. Hsu also continues to encourage herself to pursue her career as a host and singer, recalling that Barbie Hsu had always advised her to cherish her work.
The Hsu sisters first gained fame in 1994 as part of the pop duo SOS, which stood for Sisters Of Shu (an alternative spelling of Hsu), leading to their stage names: Big S and Little S. the group name was later rebranded as ASOS due to contractual disputes.
The sisters initially won over audiences with their catchy love songs like "Ten Minutes of Love," but their music career eventually took a backseat to their growing success as TV hosts.
Barbie Hsu gained widespread recognition for her roles in hit TV dramas such as "Meteor Garden," "Mars," and "Summer’s Desire," while Hsu became a beloved TV host, best known for her role on the popular show "Kangsi Coming."
Barbie Hsu passed away on Feb. 3 at the age of 49 due to pneumonia-related complications. Her assets, estimated at NT$600 million (US$18.2 million), will be divided between her husband, DJ Koo, and her two children from her previous marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, according to a ruling by a Taiwanese court.
